CONSULTING AND RESPONSE

As a writing center and writing program administrator, Laura regularly assists with consultant and instructor training and professional development. Her presentations on consulting and response focus on how responders can frame writing advice in effective ways, particularly ways that engage the writer and result in active revision.

Learning objectives in her consulting and response presentations include exploring and analyzing writers' needs and goals, careful framing of responders ideas and suggestions, and various delivery methods (synchronous, asynchronous, in person, or online).

Laura's composition courses focus on rhetoric and research, where students learn about and apply awareness of the stakeholders and rhetorical situations surrounding their topics. She emphasizes the value of examining issues from various sides and considering the kairotic moments that shape those issues.

Learning objectives in her composition courses include exploring and analyzing arguments and information, careful handling of source materials, and writing and designing persuasive messages in various media.

INTRODUCTORY LITERATURE

Laura's introductions to literature focus on close reading, analysis of themes and concepts, and understanding rhetorical and cultural contexts. As with her composition courses, she emphasizes the value of examining the issues explored in literature from various sides and considering the kairotic elements that shape how characters act and react.

Learning objectives in her literature courses include exploring and analyzing literary themes and conventions in both discussion and writing, critical research and discovery of secondary sources, careful handling of source materials, and developing independence as a writer and critical thinker.
